The O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology is a prestigious program hosted at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology—NM-AIST. It was initially designed as a five-year program, spanning from 2021 to 2025, with the possibility of extension up to fifteen years. The extension is subject to the promising progress achieved in attaining the intended results and the availability of funding.
This research chair holds a special place within the O.R. Tambo Africa Research Chair Initiative (ORTARChI), which was established under the O.R. Tambo Foundation. The initiative aims to honor the remarkable legacy of Oliver and Adelaide Tambo, influential figures in the advancement of African unity. By dedicating the research chair to their names, the initiative pays tribute to their significant contributions to the development of South Africa and the broader African continent.
